As a software engineer, I spend at least 8 hours a day staring at screens and rethinking my life decisions. While I love my work, I knew it was time for a break – I needed to rest my eyes, body, and mind…so I checked into Aruwai Resort – a slice of paradise I’d been eyeing for a while. This mini-vacation turned out to be the perfect escape, blending relaxation with adventure. Here are a few unforgettable highlights from my stay:

The Food!

The food at Aruwai Resort deserves a standing ovation. As a guy who often resorts to quick and not necessarily healthy meals, the culinary experience here was nothing short of revolutionary, well maybe not revolutionary…but you get the point.

The chef, whose name I don’t know, truly earned their title. Every dish was an adventure for my taste buds. I played it safe with some familiar favorites like stripped chicken fried rice, Hawaiian chicken pizza, pasta, and mashed potatoes. But even these seemingly simple dishes were elevated to gourmet status. The chef/cook bad!!

The portions were so large that meals often became a two-part affair. And let’s not forget the cheesecake – a dessert so divine, I craved a few additional pieces but apparently I “gotta watch my sugar intake”

The Pool

The pool became my favorite spot, a stark contrast to my usual habitat, a dimly lit room and four concrete walls….I’m talking about my bedroom, not prison.

Despite my limited swimming skills, I spent hours in the pool. The crystal-clear water was almost as soothing as my bed back at home. Nothing will ever be better than my bed though.

What made this experience truly special was the constant presence of vigilant lifeguards. Their watchful eyes allowed me to fully relax and enjoy the ambiance.

The River Adventures

Ya know, steering a canoe through the gentle currents of the Essequibo river was pretty exhilarating, although I didn’t venture too far from the shore, I can’t wait to do it again. I felt like I had a personal masseuse while i was sitting under the flow of Baracara Falls, the raw power of the falls seem to have gotten rid of any tension I had in my shoulders and back.

As I prepared to head home, I felt thoroughly rejuvenated. This getaway at Aruwai Resort wasn’t just a break from work; it was a reminder of the beauty that exists throughout our country and it was a much needed mental reset.
